The infrastructure behind PingPlayers’ game servers

PingPlayers, one of Think Huge’s own brands, gives a group of friends their own game server in minutes, in the region closest to them, for any of a large growing library of games. Underneath, every server is a dedicated environment on the same Think Huge infrastructure sold to game studios and hosting providers.

What PingPlayers Does

A player picks a game, a player count and a location. PingPlayers builds the server and hands over the keys.

1. Launch
Choose from 50+ games. The server is online in minutes, in any of 12 data centres across six continents.

2. Play
Friends join, mods go on, worlds persist. Server settings, backups and scheduling run from a web dashboard or by chatting to Ping AI, the built-in assistant.

3. Switch
Change game whenever you like, free, on the same server. A new game is live in about 60 seconds.

Support is human and around the clock. PingPlayers is the consumer face of a stack Think Huge also sells wholesale.

The Infrastructure Challenge Underneath

A game server is a small, stateful, latency-sensitive workload that someone is paying for out of their own pocket.

Lag is the whole product. A hosted game lives or dies on ping. If the server is not close to the players, nothing else matters.

Demand is spiky and global. A new release or a 1.0 update can multiply signups overnight, in whichever region the game is popular. Capacity has to be there before the players are.

Every server is somebody’s world. Saves, mods and settings must survive restarts, upgrades and game switches. Losing a world is losing a customer.

Players are targets. Game servers attract DDoS attacks. Protection has to sit in front of every server, not be bolted on after the first outage.

Margins are thin. Consumer hosting only works if provisioning, scaling and support are automated. A human touching every server does not scale.

How Think Huge Powers PingPlayers

Every server is a dedicated environment. Each customer gets their own isolated instance with its own resources. PingPlayers does not oversell, so one squad’s peak never slows another’s.

Servers sit close to the players. PingPlayers runs in 12 Think Huge data centres across Europe, the Americas, Asia-Pacific and Africa, on 10 Gbps uplinks. Customers can pick a location at checkout with a live ping check.

Provisioning and game switching are automated. Orchestration builds a server in minutes and rebuilds it for a new game in about a minute, keeping the customer’s cluster, player slots and billing intact. Upgrades and downgrades apply to a running server.

DDoS protection is built in. Multi-layered filtering sits in front of every server at the network edge, constantly monitored and updated.

Worlds are protected. Redundant systems and real-time monitoring keep servers online. Customers can upload and restore their own saves; PingPlayers handles the backups underneath.

PingPlayers joins FXVM, ForexVPS.net, AlgoBuilder and TradingHost on the same stack Think Huge sells to partners.
